Our class began to bring in the salt rock from outside, as they thought it was ice.
First we began asking the students "What is this?" "its ice", they would say.
So we began a list of what all the other students in our class thought it was.
We were able to show them videos on the Salt Mine. Also we showed them
the process of how the salt got to us, or stores.
We were very lucky to talk with Mr. Kennedy who had a huge rock salt. They
students could not believe how big it was and some of them even tried to pick
it up. They also were very curious how it looked, bumpy, shinny and different
colours. They began investigating with their hands, eyes, magnifying glasses and
objects to measure it. We had a blast with the salt.
The students also experimented with ice and salt. Which salt would melt the
ice the fastest. Was it rock salt, kosher salt or table salt??
Hamza says its ice rocks for the ground to be cold.
Talal says they are chopped ice cubes because the ice looks like it's chopped.
Marijuana thinks they are jewels on the ground for us to find it.
Mariam says they are ice cubes for the ground to keep warm.
Remal thought this rock salt looked like a sheep!
She decided to find many rock salts and identify them as animals.
She thought it would be fun and try to pick up the rock salt, but it was too heavy!!
