Measurement-inch by inch
Working to measure our carpet using a measuring tape which measures inches. So our tape only
measures up to 36 inches. So we had to do some real math at the end. They were asked to put 6 in their head and add 6 more, then put 12 and add 6 more and so on. Our students were very good at adding numbers in their head. Wow did they surprise us!! So we did the carpet both length and width and were surprised that it was off only by one inch.
When we measured the carpet with our tape measure that was 36 inches long.
Each time we put our finger down to start the measurement again. When we
Reached the end of the carpet we added the numbers together and we ended up with
139 inches.
36+36+36+31=139
