Lighter and Heavier

What is heavier or lighter than the water bottle?

We discussed what would be lighter and heavier than this water bottle.  The children

came up with some great ideas.

Ayaan said a big block is heavier.

Bilal said a feather is lighter.

We placed some objects in a basket for the children  to investigate using a balance 

scales during investigation time. 

Students were to experiment what boxes and rolls would balance the objects.

The book is lighter than the bingo dabber said Fatima

Donna said the bubbles are heavier than the sponge

Assim said this one is heavier ( the bubbles)

We talked about big and small and how sometimes just because it is small it could weight more.

So we took 2 blocks, 1 small thick block and 1 big skinny block.  

Which block is heavier?

Most of the children thought the big skinny block would weight more, but as we continue with our 

experiment we find out that the small thick block weights more.
