At The Toy Store

How many blocks can you hold in one hand?

After reading our book "At The Toy Store" there was question at the end of the book that said
"How many blocks can you hold in one hand?   This led us into our activity here:

Ilee had 5, Warrick had 9, Bilal had 6, Anabiya had 5, Talal had 8 and Mrs. Osborne had 9.
Our second time around Ilee had 7, Warrick had 9, Bilal had 8, Anabiya had 4, Talal had 7 and Mrs. Osborne had 14.  The children chose to build with the blocks after they picked up their blocks.

We wanted to see how Mrs. Osborne could grab more so we asked the question,  Why do you think Mrs. Osborne can hold more in one hand than you can?   Ilee said "because your hands are bigger".  So Talal and Mrs. Osorne put their hands together to see the difference in size.  The students said "wow your hands are big."  Tala said" because you( Mrs. Osborne) have a big hand"
I think we should take a picture of Mr. Shaw's hand with Talal's hand and ask who hand is big now!!"

"Wow Mr. Shaw's hand is huge"   Mr. Shaw's hand is so bigger!!

Hanging out and having fun with blocks.  The children played with the blocks for
quite a long time, asking each other how many blocks can you hold?  I have 2 more than Talal or I got less this turn. The conversation that went on after we were finished with the activity was very interesting as they used some of the new words, phrases from the math lesson.  They are amazing!!
