Shark Inquiry!!!

Hajar made an 'S' using playdough and then made a letter H for the                                                        beginning sound of the word shark.

Nezar was building a boat for him and his friends to keep safe in the                                                   water so the shark wouldn't get them.
They were building a rope and net to catch the shark.
Mrs. Osborne read a book about sharks, she used fiction and non-fiction books about them.

Art fun!!!!

Friends made letters for our word wall!

                                               Painting with rolling sponges.

Students loved re-reading our 'five little monkeys' poem.

They also re-enacted the story using the puppets and trees stumps.

Mrs.Diab turned the pages and picture walked with the students                                                             what happened next and counted down from 5.

They decided to build a puppet theatre out of boxes and paper towel                                                      rolls.

Donna wanted to create a library in the dramatic centre.

She made money for her customers to purchase the books.

Students wanted the teachers to pretend they were at the beach and the                                                  students made fans to cool the teachers off.

Friends were playing a game of 'little mouse, little mouse', trying to guess                                            which colour house the mouse was hiding under.

Float or sink?? Which items floated in the water and which items sank?

 Apple Experiment

We started with four containers and four types of liquids to put our apples into.  The children were excited to see what liquids we were going to use.  We used water, milk of magnesium, baking soda with water and vinegar.  Our goal was to see what apples would not turn brown.
First we put our apples in their containers.

Next we poured our liquids into the containers.

                                                       Third we labeled our containers

And lastly we waited

The children were able to smell all ingredients when we got to the milk of magnesium Warrick said " it smells like cinnamon" Marijana said" its malls like gym."  When it came down to the vinegar "Warrick thought it smelled like chips".
After two days the end results were all the apples turned brown but
the apples in the Milk of Magnesium.

Which apple did you like best? We graphed which apple tasted the best.

Shadow Inquiry

Nezar was outside on a sunny and said "look at my shadow Mrs. Osborne, mine is bigger than yours"  Mrs. Osborne moved so her shadow was taller than his and this is how our investigation on shadows began.
Each day Nezar would comment on his shadow whether it was short, tall or fat.  He knew that the sun made the shadows but, as we investigated shadows further we learned depending on how close the object is to the sun or light source it will make the object bigger or smaller.  You will see as you look further into our investigation into shadows.

We began our investigating with a white sheet, flashlight and 5 little pumpkin puppets.  The children were very excited that they could see the pumpkins and the fence from the other side.

Making shadow animals with our hands

Nezar and Hamza investigating with flashlights and realized they could make a shadow on their face.

Our friend Preet made his own version of a puppet for the shadow curtain, his very own fence.

Using a projector and beanie babies

How Big Around is our Pumpkin?

Our students are trying to estimate how big around our pumpkin is by looking at it.  This is one of our goals in math.  This activity also helps them with holding scissors properly and cutting skills.

Pumpkin investigation

Describe the outside of the pumpkin....

How many lines are on the pumpkin?

How many seeds are inside the pumpkin?

What does the inside of the pumpkin look like?

We should carve our pumpkins like this...
The children are busy making a picture on how they think our pumpkin should look when we carve it.

Circumference

How many pumpkins are in the jar?

How many pumpkins tall are you?
We measured(using non-standard measurement) pumpkins to see how tall our friends are.
